Dr. Morgan Gwin
Originally from Edmonton, Dr. Morgan Gwin obtained a degree in Mechanical Engineering before completing the DDS program at the University of Alberta in 2015. She spent three years in private practice in the Edmonton area before returning to graduate school at the University of Washington to specialize in Prosthodontics.
The field of Prosthodontics deals with the replacement of missing teeth and oral tissues with the goal of restoring oral form and function so that patients can comfortably and confidently speak, chew, laugh and smile. Prosthodontists have advanced training in smile esthetics, restorative dentistry, dental implants, full arch prostheses (patients may know these as “All on 4” or “fixed complete dentures”), and removable prosthetics (complete and partial dentures). She provides a range of treatments, from the restoration of single teeth to complex, full-mouth rehabilitations that involve teeth, implants, or a combination of both.
What are dental crowns and bridges?
Crowns and bridges are dental restorations that are used to repair or replace damaged or missing teeth.
Crowns are caps that are placed over a damaged or decaying tooth to protect it and restore its appearance and function.
Bridges are used to replace missing teeth by anchoring artificial teeth to the surrounding natural teeth. Both crowns and bridges can benefit a dental patient by improving the appearance and function of their teeth, as well as preventing further damage or decay. They can also help to maintain the proper bite alignment and prevent shifting of the surrounding teeth.
When should you see a prosthodontist for a dental crown or bridge?
You should consult a prosthodontist for a dental crown or bridge when you have extensive tooth decay, missing teeth, or damage to existing teeth that cannot be repaired with a traditional filling.
At Chinook Dental Group, our prosthodontist is an expert in creating custom-made prosthetic teeth that closely match our patient’s natural teeth in terms of colour, shape, and function.
Additionally, our prosthodontist has specialized training in creating full arch replacements, which may be necessary for patients who have lost most or all of their natural teeth.
What are the benefits of dental crowns and bridges?
Dental crowns and bridges offer a variety of benefits to improve the overall health and appearance of your teeth.
Crowns, also known as caps, are placed over a damaged or decayed tooth to strengthen and protect it. Bridges, on the other hand, are used to fill gaps caused by missing teeth by attaching artificial teeth to surrounding teeth.
Both crowns and bridges can help to restore proper bite alignment and improve speech and eating habits. They also provide a natural and aesthetic look, blending in with the rest of your teeth. Overall, dental crowns and bridges can greatly enhance the overall health and appearance of your smile.
