Meet Our Prosthodontist

Dr. Morgan Gwin

Originally from Edmonton, Dr. Morgan Gwin obtained a degree in Mechanical Engineering before completing the DDS program at the University of Alberta in 2015.  She spent three years in private practice in the Edmonton area before returning to graduate school at the University of Washington to specialize in Prosthodontics.

The field of Prosthodontics deals with the replacement of missing teeth and oral tissues with the goal of restoring oral form and function so that patients can comfortably and confidently speak, chew, laugh and smile.  Prosthodontists have advanced training in smile esthetics, restorative dentistry, dental implants, full arch prostheses (patients may know these as “All on 4” or “fixed complete dentures”), and removable prosthetics (complete and partial dentures). She provides a range of treatments, from the restoration of single teeth to complex, full-mouth rehabilitations that involve teeth, implants, or a combination of both.

Overview

What is smile design?

Smile design is an artful approach to modern dentistry that allows you to customize your smile to better fit the shape of your face and achieve the look you want.

Aesthetics play a key role in smile design procedures. Your prosthodontist will work with you one-on-one in order to determine what kind of changes need to be made in order for your teeth to look their best. This includes discussing things like colour matching and tooth alignment as well as taking impressions so that veneers can be created if necessary.

The goal of smile design is not only to enhance the aesthetics of your teeth but also to help improve their function so that they last longer and are more comfortable.

Who is a candidate for smile design?

A candidate for smile design is typically an individual who is looking to improve the appearance of their teeth and overall smile. This can include people who have issues such as crooked or misaligned teeth, gaps between teeth, discoloration, or uneven tooth shape or size. Smile design may also be a consideration for those who have undergone previous dental work such as orthodontics or have lost teeth and require restorative work.

In general, anyone who is unhappy with the appearance of their smile and wishes to improve it may be a candidate for smile design.

Benefits

What are the benefits of smile design?

There are many reasons why someone might choose smile design over other cosmetic dentistry services such as traditional braces or whitening treatments.

For one thing, it can help correct misalignment issues without having to wear metal braces for months or even years at a time. Additionally, it can give you the confidence boost you need by creating a whiter, brighter smile that looks natural and attractive.

Finally, choosing smile design over other services can save you money in the long run since it often requires fewer visits and less maintenance than traditional braces or whitening treatments.
